Here's my story of being bounced from Free Republic. What's yours?
It took me three posts to get tossed. I was responding to a post on the supposed repression of free speech of someone who supports reparative therapy, making the gay straight.
I tried to be really nice. I merely asked if there were any studies on reparative therapy; I thought I sounded like a moderate Republican--at least that was my goal. I was not even taking a strong position one way or the other--but I was bounced nevertheless.
At first, I laughed. But on second thought, it was disturbing--those folks cannot tolerate free discourse. It is as if they did not want me providing contrary data corrupting their one-way minds.
Below is some classic Freeperlandia
Here is the Free Republic thread I was posting to. I was "SKM" over there.
Here is the post that prompted by first post:

>>>>>Oh, that's rich coming from the "we're 10% of the population so you'd better do what we want" crowd.<<<<<
I can't effing STAND THIS ANYMORE....

Here is my response in italics as recorded by another Freeper (my original post having been deleted.)
To: SKM
Where do you want them to go? The issue may be one of free speech, and no-one's speech, should be infringed, but is not the gay community entitled to speak?
The 1.8%-of-the-population gay community certainly doesn't suffer from a lack of free speech, does it?
And welcome to Free Republic.

Here is another Freeper response to one of my three itty-bitty posts:
To: SKM
There really is only one question that needs to asked in any question regarding this subject, and that is this: Do you believe the homosexual act is sexually perverted. If you answer "no", then you are a homosexual. If your answer to that question is "yes" than all other questions regarding this subject are clear.

Here is a portion of my second post, as recorded by a Freeper:

Does anyone have any data on whether reparative therapy actually works?
Ed, do you have the Wall Street Journal interview with Dr. Robert Spitzer and his research study on ex-gays? He finds that "change is possible".

Since I actually got a response that was not "crazy" here, I thought I had a shot at some additional dialogue. Silly me.

Where do you want them to go?
How about reparative therapy?

And here is a highly unusual substantive response:
To: SKM
This isn't a case of letting the gay community speack. They speak all the time. The problem is caving into their demands simply because people are afraid of looking prejudiced.
The issue here is does someone have the right to talk about changing sexual orientation? Yes, they do. The only ones who don't think so are the gays and the liberal left because they simply won't admit that change can take place. The country is full of people who have changed. I have see videos of interviews with ex-gays. The proof is there, the gays want to ignore it, because it doesn't fit it with the "we are victims and can't help it" theory they employ to make everyone cave in to their demands.
It is time that these 3% of the population are made to realize the country doesn' turn on them.

Here is a substantive, polite response that is really freepy, creepy:
To: SKM
I am NOT advocating the following kind of research, but there is eveidence that sexual desire can be changed as well. Dr Robert G Heath of Tulane university (a very controversial "doctor" if you look him up)
inserted electrodes into a homosexual man's septum, and when activated, the electrodes would cause the man to experience "an orgasm-like sensation." The man was shown heterosexual pornography and was aroused enough to a state where he could have sex with women (temporarily, anyway). I'm not saying that homosexuals should be treated with electric-shock therapy, but sexuality is mental as well as physical. If the mind can be "shaped" then so can sexuality.
How are people with other sexual addictions treated? Particularly those who can only be aroused by porn? These people lack the ability to have a true sexual relationship with another person. The more perverse, the better it is for them, until nothing can satisfy them enough. If this kind of very dangerous sexual addiction can be treated, then why not homosexuality?
It is ironic that homosexuals used be called SSAD (Same Sex Attraction Disorder) by the AMA but now they're "gay!"

And, here is the explanation of how and why I got the axe:

I was wondering how long SKM was going to last, talking about being "rewired" like you are born that way. Not that I don't mind new pro-sodomy trolls, she was disrupting the purpose of this thread. And that is we need to email the fairfax county school board and support Stephen Hunt.
I wish the Admin Moderator would put this thread on the activism side board.

So, it was the comment about reparative therapy "re-wiring" folks that did it. It looks I lasted about 30 minutes in Freeperland. Has anyone been able to hang out there for very long?
